OP, you will be fine :D Our day is coming in at about £6K and we're having a larger evening do, you'll do great, especially as everone here is so helpful and friendly. They help keep the costs down :)
  • Thanks for all your helpful comments, I'm really confident we can do this within our budget now and I think it might even be fun trying to get the best deals :)

    Perfectly do-able!

    I would suggest the following:

    1) M& S cakes are fab, decorate with flowers
    2) Put disposable cameras on the tables - we got loads of great pics (unexpectedly so!)
    3) Consider getting a limited drinks package - a drink when people arrive & toasts only - wine drinkers will want to choose what they drink and beer drinkers won't want wine...
    4) Make your own table favours, hobby craft do loads of the gear to make them very cheaply.
    5) Consider doing the little things that people will remember and go 'ahhh' over - make age appropriate gift packs for any children - cheap to do and entertains them during the speeches!, print up your own menus etc - in fact make your own invites etc - not hard to do with a decent printer and you can even personalise things easily and cheaply.
    6) If you get married at a hotel/civil venue consider doing away with cars - anyone with a decent vehicle can drive you there (or you have have your hair done at their salon like I did!) which will save a fortune!
    7) Check your dates, my niece had a wonderful wedding which would have cost her another £1000 during the 'high season'!

All in all, if becoming married (rather than having a wedding) is your aim, then you will have a wonderful time - good luck!
Aiming to be debt & mortgage free by November 2018!

Check your days too, some people have got better deals by having the wedding mid week. Also try holding off mentioning the 'w' word!
Check gumtree for your photogrpaher, I get excited when I think about my wedding pics as I love the photographs I have seen so far plus they only charge £395 for all day !!
I found my hotel on a hotel site, not all places are going to want to advertise on wedding sites and if they're in high demand the price will reflect this, put your postcode into e.g lastminute.com to get an idea of what's around you. I found somewhere gorgeous I didn't even know existed!
I'm not having a welcome drink, no way can I pick one drink for all the guests, we're also putting money behind the bar for the drink with the meal as the beer drinkers will be cheaper than the wine drinkers. Consider getting your own drinks, we've found a spumanti for something like £2.83 and whilst it is very sweet it'd be nice for a toast, similarly there is a £4 cava that I love. Even with £7 corckage we're still saving money, our wedding is at 4k so far so £7000 is plenty
