CSA help please

Up until January this year I was receiving regular monthly payments from the CSA from my ex for our son. In January he changed jobs and didn't tell the CSA. I only found out a couple of weeks ago where he was actually working, so contacted CSA giving them details of where he works. Well received a phone call on Thursday to say they had contacted the place and were told he does not work there. I know he does and I found out yesterday, yes it's a legit job - only thing is his wife is the manager of the place he works at and she is the one that does the wages. So I am thinking that she is the one that the CSA probably spoke to and she told them he doesn't work there.

My problem is now that the CSA told me unless I have proof that he works there then there is nothing that they can do. They also said that if I think his wife has lied about him being there then I could report it because it is fraud - never said who I could report it to. The other thing is that I don't have any physical proof that he works there so what would be the point of reporting him.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Would imagine you would initially need physical proof, as in a photo. But surely over the next few weeks HMRC would verify his employer to CSA? As his NI and PAYE contributions could be traced to his new employer?
  • The CSA can tap into other government sources such as Inland Revenue to check his PAYE status. I asked them to do this for me, they can do it. I don't know the ins and outs, but someone more knowledgeable will come and advise, such as Kelloggs.

Its rubbish that they would expect you to provide evidence. Thats THEIR job.

I would recap everything you were told in a letter to them, and ask them to confirm that what you were told is definately the case. If you do that, they'll have to look at the rubbish information you were given, which was probably by someone not properly trained. As always, send it recorded delivery.
  • Gosh, you almost feel that you have to turn into some sort of legal eagle, just to be able to effectively deal with the CSA!

Oh, make sure that you have some sort of confirmation of the date you informed the CSA he was working. (put it in your letter, "as per my telephone conversation to you on such and such a date regarding the change of circumstance to my ex-partners employment status, etc"

Thank you for the advice. I contacted them again today to verify what I had been told on Thursday was correct, only to be told that I didn't have to provide proof of where he worked. They had already contacted Inland Revenue (i think) for information of his employer, which they have actually received back already. It is currently waiting to be allocated to a team, so fingers crossed it gets sorted out soon.

    Thanks again guys. :T
