quick trampoline question - foam poles???

I have been given some money to buy a trampoline for the kids - however, do they all come with foam poles? I'm sure I've seen some with plasticy coating, but is that just expensive ones? I've been looking at the budget ones - tj hughes, asda, focus etc and they all have foam poles.
The problem is the local cats clawed the poles on our last trampoline (a mini kids one) to shreds and I don't want it to happen again!!!
