in Credit cards
Now I really really am not a happy bunny. Got home for work today to a letter from Mint telling me that had not received a payment for over one month. Went straight to my filing and guess what - no July statement. I checked my pile of 'to dos' - and no statement there either.
I phoned them up to see what the crack was and I was told that they did not receive a payment at all last month and I am also over my credit limit - now thats news to me! They have banged a £12 charge on for each 'offence'. I explained the bit about not receiving the statement and they don't seem the slightest bit bothered about the fact that it could have gone a walk and got into the wrong hands. They refuse to waive the charge for the late payment even though it is not my fault. I would also not have allowed the account over the limit if I have received the statement.
Every time I receive a card statement/bill I put it in my pile of 'to dos' and when its dealt with it gets filed away. It is not in either place so it hasn't slipped through my net. I am obviously getting penalised for Royal Mails failure to deliver once again. I have again asked for a direct debit mandate to be sent to me (still waiting on the last one) so that I can set up payments never to be late again. And I have had to do a balance transfer to sort out the triple payment that I have to make before I get paid this month. I am sooooooo no pleased.
Sorry for ranting but I need to get this one off my chest.........

Maybe you should have an Open List each month to where you could list all of your credit cards and tick them off as the statement was received.0

The Credit Card companies put it in the T's and C's that its the holders responsibility to contact them about statements not being received so they cover themselves from things like this.
I've had problems getting my Skycard DD setup as well.
I have setup a standing order instead for the right side of what I expect the min payment will be based on previous months.

Get a diary ! Put the bills you are likely to get on those pages allocated for the future. Keep a record of what was spent. Mint have online access to their credit card's balance and statements. Monitoring this can help you spot and stop fraud quicker. Internet banking in general is a powerful aid in managing ones finances. There are no bank queues or stamps to buy and stick.
I'm guessing you would have also paid the bill by cheque which could also have been lost in the post. You were also lucky to get the bad news letter from mint as it could have been lost or not sent. You are lucky that this fiasco did not continue indefinately as your, statement in payment out system would have permitted this.

A direct debit for at least the minimum amount would have got you out of this hole.0

I agree with what all these guys are saying - and it's not the banks fault if your statement doesn't get delivered.0

No, in many cases it won't be the banks fault if Royal Mail doesn't deliver but the OP struck a chord with me. I'd been waiting a month for my Mint card cheques to come through so that I could take advantage of the 0% period. I got my card in June and the cheques didn't arrive until last week and only after I called repeatedly to chase them. Mint say they were sent at the beginning of July. I wonder perhaps if it is a stalling tactic so that I don't have the maximum 0% period to play with. But then, I'm a big old cynic.
Also, they don't seem to be too concerned that they supposedly sent me blank cheques that they say are lost in the post. Now if I had sent those cheques I would be really concerned that they had fallen into the wrong hands which also leads me to believe that they were never sent in the first placeDebt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96

Molanole, I tend to agree with you there. I did make comment during my call to Mint to try and sort something out that it was obviously a possibility that it could have fallen into the wrong hands but they were not as concerned as I was especially as the statements have the card numbers on them - doesn't take a genius to work out expiry dates to use the card number on websites that dont need the Verification Code. I suppose I'm lucky that the next statement arrived this morning and I agree with everything that it on it and the lost statement hasnt (yet) got into the wrong hands and abused."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

But people dont even need a card number as there are very short and readily available programs which will generate a valid card number - the one a friend wrote would produce hundreds a second. It doesnt take much to then find a store with a poor security setup to use to find which have actually been issued and what their issue date is by simply trying them all automatically.
Whilst many places claim you must have delivery to the registered card address etc the majority of sites do not actually check this (from my experience) as last week was the first time in over 8 years of regularly buying from online that a card transaction was declined because I had put my work address as the "registered" address rather than my home address which is the actual registered address. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Hi ma,
unfortunately the charge is valid - but I have ben in the same boat as you...
I have had charges to a nationwide credit card three months in a row because the DD form didnt come through after two requests and the payment date was too close to my payday to get a payment to them (and also unless you get the statement it can slip your mind).
however they could see on their system the repeated request for DD forms and refunded the charges......
worth a try...DFW Nerd 156 :hello:

I'm still waiting. Somehow, I doubt those cheques were sent at the beginning of July. I was told, after phoning Customer Services on a weekly basis, Mint have "some problems" printing the cheques!
Btw, if anyone's thinking of phoning Mint, the number to ring, in order to avoid the 0870 lark, is 01702 351155.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
