great value garden visits

Last weekend we went on a family outing to an NGS open garden. Entry for two of us plus a great tea cost a tenner. Worth a look on the ngs website, and the money goes to charity.

    Thanks for the reminder, plantaholic.

I've looked at the website and found quite a number of gardens that will be opening their doors in my area. It is inspiring to walk around 'neighbours' gardens and see what grows well. If they sell their own plants (for charity) then you can pick up some bargains and know that they will thrive when you get them home. The teas are always delightful and the gardeners themselves are so pleased to have their hard work rewarded by visitors.

Go to one if you can and support a very worthy cause while learning about gardening.

    Hi
For those wanting it in booklet/list form, the yellow NGS booklets for your particular areas are normally stocked in your local Tourist Information Centre, Library, garden centres & sometimes places where leaflet racks are displayed.
I got mine the other day from the library but also saw it my local TIC.
    May help someone.
  • I never knew about this...what a fab idea, will look it up.

This will be the 4th year that we will be going to London for the weekend of 12th/13th June. For the price of £7.50 [if bought in advance] there are over 200 gardens to visit everything from The Inns of Courts to The Kensington Roof Gardens. We pick a different area each year and have a wonderful if tiring weekend. I can really recommend it.
