Hi all SMP question please.

Hi all,

A question regarding maternity pay...employers contribution.

Please don't just put the link on to direct.gov as the site really confuses me with it's wording hence why I find answers from you fab lot helps me so much more!!

So, basically given the 'have to be 26 weeks pregnant by xxx amount of time int he job' etc to qualify for maternity pay from employer.....
...if I start in July when is the earliest I could get pregnant by????

This isn't meant to sound as mercenary as it is by the way! The plan has been always for me to finish degree, work at least a year then look to get pregnant as I am 33 as it is and time it quickly ticking on.

So really out of curiousity I wondered what is the earliest I could get pregnant to get employers maternity pay??

Thank you.

    Thank you jdturk.

I also don't mind if you think I am coming across as mercenary but I see it as planning my future sensibly. No different than having a 5 year career plan for example. After all I have worked since I was 18 full time and have just got back on the career ladder having taken 3 years out to get a degree to better myself.

Many people have plans for their work eg, those that say I'll work 2 years at xxx firm to get expereinece but then leave to go elsewhere so why taking into account maternity benefits is not seen as a similar move I'll never know!!!

You minded enough to explain youself and you minded enough to have put it in your original post that it may sound mercenary and yes you are right it is a logical step and much better to plan it than it to happen by luck/misfortune (whichever way you see it).

But regarding the maternity pay from the employer, have you look at your contract and seen how long you have to work there to get contractual pay?
