Book recommendations?

More sorting out and I have just come across a £10 book token - goodness knows how long I have had it - must be years - but apparently it is still valid! So can anyone recommend any DF/MS books to spend it on? (I have Martin's already of course! :D )

Maybe a "cheap eats" recipe book?

Or give it as a gift?

It's a bit dog eared for a gift to be honest (it looks like it has been kicking around for years! :o ) - could use it to buy a gift though - do have some birthdays coming up in September...

Any good cheap eats books? Have got Jocasta Innes' Pauper's Cookbook.

Disaster - just been to check my recipe book shelf and the Pauper's Cookbook isn't there! :( Hate it when things go astray in moves.... I got it when I was a student (a long time ago!) and used to use it all the time - had some great and very simple recipes. Might have to try and get another copy if it doesn't turn up...

Others I have - Delia's Frugal Food - which is pretty good - has a great recipe for Sausage and Lentils! And Simple Scoff which was produced by Warwick student's union! That one is really studenty but some very cheap recipes! Not sure if it is still available.

    Buying a new token - now there's a thought.

I would use it to buy gifts for Christmas say to save cash. You can make that £10 go further that way.

For example if you get 3 books in WHSmiths at £4.99 each when they are on 3 for 2. You get 3 gifts at a value of £14.97. :j

You could even keep the free book for yourself when you find one you want and still get 2 gifts.

There are many variations of this but shop around and maximise that tenner. BOGOF's, half price offers etc.

Can you tell that I shop around for the most items for my cash? ;)

Good Food (BBC Food Magazine) have written a 'Cheap Eats' recipe book, it only costs £4.99 - we got ours from Ottakers but Sainsburys sell it for £3.99. We use it a lot and it has some really good and tasty recipes. It is very small book.

You could try Jasmine Birtles 'A bit on the side'. Or Smart Spending with Jane Furnival (similar to Martin's book).
