I can't get a credit report?

I aplied to experian and another equi something company for a report and they can't seem to find anything on me. I lived in UK for 12 years, and i always worked and had loans,credit cards,mortgage etc
I'm now aplying to rent a house (bigger place then the house i own,my family has grown) and i don't think i'd be able because i have a mortgage already? Does mortgage show up on credit report? can they see if i've taken out one or not?
Can they see anything if credit companies cant see anything on me?
