Does any one use egg powder?

Hi, we seem to get through so many eggs every week for baking etc...

i was thinking about buying whole egg powder from "supercook"

Has anyone tried it for baking/cooking and does it turn out ok?

I am now regularly using milk powder for cooking/sauces etc... great so I dont have to use up our fresh milk.

Yes, I have used it and keep some dried egg in my storecupboard for emergencies (and the dried egg white :o )

Just so long as your measurements are accurate, it's ok (same with everything really  ) Rubbish for scrambled egg though ;)

Not tried it I'm afraid, but this is the dried egg of wartime fame. I believe it is quite good in baking but not as straight egg - scrambled etc.

A good egg substitute in baking is soya flour (available in health food shops).Use 1 heaped tbsp + 1 tbsp of water for each egg needed. It is cheaper than dried egg and lasts for ages.I haven't tried it in recipes which need lots of eggs, but it works well when you just need 1 or 2. Last time I looked dried egg cost the same as shell eggs.

Hi there I have been trying to get hold of this also.I have been in touch with sainsburys Tesco and Dr Ouetka who are now supercook. They have informaed me that the supermarkets have removed this from their list and are no longer producing it.
I have found another way of getting the whole dried egg though its at myprotein.co.uk if you use the following ref code you will get 5% dicount. MP172813
  • I have a discount code for the myprotein.co.uk website MP174677 which gets the user 5% off their first order.

It awards me a few points (5 points for every pound spent)!

You get your own code after you place your first order!

If you google for egg replacements there are a number of cheap alternatives to eggs for baking.
If I am short of eggs or run out I add a bit extra baking powder (say an extra 1/2 to 1 teaspoon), plus a desert spoon of cornflour and a splash of liquid-around 1 desert spoon of water or milk per egg.
Does the trick no probs, in fact many muffin recipes are fine with no egg at all.
