My girlfriend has recently moved to the UK from the Czech Republic.Im hoping to find out what savings accounts there are that are available to her and also how she starts her credit history rolling. Is it possible to apply to Equifax or Experian and submit your details? They dont have a phone nuimber and there websites dont appear to mention this.I already have her on my phone bill plus she will have other forms of ID but I dont think her credit history from herb country is transferable.

She really needs a current account and credit card to get her credit history moving, as you say. She will need a job/letter of job offer to open an account - and I know from my Aussie wife that they tend to offer you a credit card when you open an account. HSBC did. However, some other Aussie friends of mine didn't take up the offer, and despite earning loads can't get access to a credit card now. So long as she is resident and ordinarily resident in the UK and has a NI number, she should be ok applying for savings accounts, but get the current a/c and credit card sorted first.
Experian and Equifax just collect details from providers of credit, the banks take care of that. Get her on the electoral roll as well.

I have just faxed the form to register to the electoral roll (didn't know it was possible for EU citizen).
Doesn anyone know how long it's gonna take to the council to register me? will they send me a voting card?
How long will it take to show up on my credit report?

they have cut off dates - if you register before x, you go on the roll at y. Usually about a month - 6 weeks. I just get a letter confirming I'm on the electoral roll - you get a voting card only if there's an election!
As soon as you are on the electoral roll, when a credit agency does a search on you, it will come up.I'm an Investment Manager. Any comments I make on this board should be not be construed as advice, and are for general information purposes only.0 -
