Fixed until next year, aiming over the £1839 may be a bit optimistic for the moment unless I sell a kidney!

Why do you not have joint accounts? As ever, you do not need to answer my questions but they are more for you to think about.

A while back, when I was trying to pay my debts off, my wife decided to separate our finances which effectively left me with nothing after paying my share of the bills yet still having to entertain our son, pay for lunch and petrol. Frankly, it was utterly humiliating. Not suggesting this is the case but having no access to money or the responsibility for paying the bills does not exactly help, as it's somewhat infantising your husband, giving him perhaps a reason to spend money where somebody with 'responsibility' would not.

To be honest Alex,we do have a joint account but he rarely goes shopping and uses cash if he does. He has no interest in the finances at all and has a seperate account that he saves in. He always seems to have money though! I see your point but dh is not bothered, if he was he would definitely say.

Sorry that was not very clear, he does have access to the joint acct just never uses it, its getting late!

what rate will it go to?

Did todays conversation cover the end of the current deal and what options will be available along with what fees any new deal may have?

Check the lenders web site if they have fees you need them in the 1 year plan(they may change but you need something).

You really need to move from short term(month to month) planning to longer term.

My wife used to tell me I was to deal with the finances and she would have nothing to do with them. Upon joining MSE, people told me that we should both be on board and that the debts weren't mine alone and that we were both responsible for the finances etc. etc.

Things got worse before they got better, along with a few attempts to help from my wife but it's only since we've truly started working together and both taking responsibility that we have done our best financially. Neither of us owe any unsecured debts and we talk about things before buying them. We have no separate money now (business aside but that is not touched for personal spending and even so, she has the passcode to the online banking for the business).

Clearly, it's your marriage and your finances. I can only tell you what has worked for me.

The purchase 0% cards, can they be used for balance transfers at 0% with no fee as I've never seen that before , there is usually a best buy section on here and its best deals for me it her transfers or purchases?

Can't do the BT but there are no fees for spends.

called a slow stooze you buys stuff on the 0% purchase card and use the cash to pay off the other cards that are running out soon.

Food, fuel and some bills can all go on CC without penalty, some 0% purchase have other benefits.

Quite easy to transfer a few £k without the fees.

Hi did enquire about the deal ending next year yesterday, there will be no affordability test for that think goodness and I often check online to see what the current customer deals are, currently:

2 yr fix. 2.15% with 10% annual ops
    2yr fix 2.25% with 50% annual op
    3 fix 2.69% with 10% annual op
    5 yrfix 3.09% with 10% annual op

Only other options are offset which are quite a bit higher.

Dh is not interested in the keeping track of our money I still update him all the time , and i even used to do weekly meetings and get my folder of finances out to go through. He has so much pressure worrying about work,it works for us if I deal with home.

On a slightly less heavy note, I've been looking at bread flour online, I used to use the bm a lot but have not lately. Instead of more trips to the supermarket on the way home (and a basket full as a result) I've been buying from the bakers round the corner, its the best bread in the world but is £1.60 for a white sliced sandwhick loaf, I think its time to get back to the bm now , we use at least one loaf a day, does anyone else bake or know the cheapest good flour to use?

As you are interest only unless they have different rules for IO the 10% op limit will not be enough, you would have to use savings to hold the spare.

The offsets are 0.3 higher so around £35pm more interest.

    Another thought

does the company owe you more money than just this loan?
If it does when will it start paying that back?
