Good morning everyone!
Anyone watch spendaholics last night? That guy who was earning about £60 per week but spending about £3,000 per week?! (some weeks!) all because he had his dear old mother wrapped around his little finger!! They interviewed her and she was after sympathy - did not feel sorry for her one bit!!
And afterwards when they went for a trip to London and had a 'cheap' meal for £16.50 each?!! CHEAP?!! I could get a weeks shopping with that!! Grr:mad:

I also notice the show focuses heavily on the psychological issues, which my wife loves and tries to fit me into their profiles as well."See you on the Other Side"0

Yes, this kind of thing does annoy me, although I think this is an excellent programme for getting people started on a DFW route.
I'd like to see Martin make a programme in this vein though, using all the usual principles from this board to *really* turn people's spending habits around!
Also - the other thing that is really annoying me at the moment is loan adverts that make consolidating unsecured debt onto your house look like a really good idea. Make me shout and scream at the TV!!
I notice that "she who would should not be mentioning" has not been deterred by the campaign and has in fact made a new advert...
JamesTotal Debt: Owe about £19,000 on credit cards plus £24,000 which is my half of joint loans.0 -

I don't think there is anything psychological about it! The guy last night was just stupid and lazy. That's about as deep rooted as it gets IMO!Was debt free... then went travelling!0 -
I keep forgetting spendaholics is on! Thankfully BBC3 are quite good at repeating things so I shall keep an eye out and probably end up throwing my slipper at the screen too by sounds of things!!
I do enjoy spendaholics and am amazed at what people spend their money on! I also enjoyed that Jane Furnival programme that was on BBC1 last year, where whole families were wasting so much money, and food in a lot of cases!!Official DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

The thing that bugs me the most about those adverts is that majority are shown during daytime tv (I am fortunate enough to live close enough to work to go home for my lunch) who are they aimed at exactly? The unempolyed? The typical 'housewife' who isn't financially savvy and so won't understand the consequences of securing a loan on the house?
And BTW, I noticed in yuor signature you had a peugeot on finance and managed to sell it and pay it off - how did you do this as I have one currently? Did you get for the car what you owed on it? Sorry for being nosey it's just that my 206 is costing me £150 per month and I still owe about £6k on it but don't think it's really worth that much? Was debt free... then went travelling!0 -
Last night the guy was spending £11k per year on DRINKS AND TAXIS ALONE!! That didn't include his Vivien westwood taste in clothes or anything else!
i think if you have the money to burn and your not spending anyone elses or running up debt then fair play to you - but this guy was spending his mom's money!
It was just funny when the woman took him into a cheaper clothes store and he spent £35 on a pair on jeans - even that's too much for me!Was debt free... then went travelling!0 -
Well he didn't really have any debt did he. I don't for a second believe he is going to pay her back and it's her own fault. He seemed like a 4 year old and its quite sad. It was one of those blame it on my childhood type shows.Barclaycard 3800

I prefer Bank of Mum & Dad - think it's slightly more real than Spendaholics (which I watch for its sheer entertainment value!)2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
