Asperger Syndrome and Disability Discrimination Act

I am looking for work and figured it may be a good idea to put together one side of A4 to try and express to employers how my Asperger Syndrome affects me, what "reasonable adjustments" could be made and get across that even though I have verbal communication and social interaction difficulties I am still employable.
About 4 months ago in an historic thread you posted your frustration about continued problems securing employment.
How did you get on with the advice given then?
For example, contacting an organisation that helps those with disabilities into work (for example, the Shaw Trust)?
Applying for jobs more suited to you which have less busy, less team and less communication requirements, i.e. you adapt your ambitions to what you are naturally suited to?
Boosting your CV by getting voluntary work experience as you have no employment experience whatsoever and this is likely to be a big factor in your continuing non-employment?
Considering self-employment? The members then posted some careers that people with disabilities had set up or other roles just to inspire you, such as book-keeping, dog walking, ebay trading and so on.0 -

As I noticed after I'd posted a reply, the OP in this thread was written 6 months ago, before the 'historic thread' you picked up on. Another example why people should start new threads rather than resurrect a vaguely relevant one from months ago.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
Have you tried using the Asperger's as a positive in your application? "My Asperger's means that I am able to focus very well on a task, and I will always strive for perfection"
There are positives to Asperger's as well as negatives. Perhaps focusing on a few more positives will make people read your application in a positive manner.
My little girl is an Aspie, and she isn't old enough for employment yet but I hope people will be able to see her for the positive traits she can bring, and not just the difficulties she may face.
Good luck.0 -

Thanks, I'd not noticed that this one was an old thread, too, or I wouldn't have commented but perhaps the refreshed thread will be of use to someone in the future in a similar situation.0 -
But if they can pass the interviews and processes for voluntary postions then they can gain paid positions. Voluntary places are often more difficult, not less difficult, to achieve.Signature removed for peace of mind0
