Making Bread where to buy flour and ingredients

I'm currently using Waitrose organic strong white and malted flours but all Waitrose flours have been good so far. Sainsburys strong is very good for results as is Carrs also stocked by Sainsburys, Morrisons strong was not good at all, had my first bad loaves with that but the Morrisons organic was good. Tescos strong is a bit cheaper but I've not tried that. I haven't seen any cheap direct online offers so tend to just use supermarkets.

The cheapest I've seemed skimmed Marvel milk powers is Wilkos, for £1.09 I think it was, it's cheaper than in the supermarkets but there are other much cheaper brands I've not tried.

Another vote for the Doves Farm yeast in the orange packet from Waitrose or Tesco, 99p and lasts ages.

Never used bread improver.
Sugar I get from whatever supermarket I'm in.
Asda do a nice self raising flour.

Make your own SR flour, that's an immediate saving.

The cheapest flour may not be good. Doves Farm costs more, but is excellent. Their dried yeast is very good. You could also buy fresh bakers yeast, either from a baker, or at Morrisons.

See if there's a small working flour mill near you as flour bought there is fresher, almost always better, and often the same price.

B&M's and Home Bargains often have startlingly good deals on branded sugars and so on.

Anyway, back to why I hit the quote button in the first place.

Why is making your own sr flour an immediate saving? plain and sr are the same price, well the 8 different type/pack sizes I looked at on tesco web site were all the same price.

I'm surprised. I've always found it to cost more.

Even so, I would still make my own as I've found that store SR lacks oomph. Just get Supercook raising agent and follow the instructions on the tub.
