Not completely DFW style but my little success story

Hello,

Just wanted to share my little story because I am feeling pretty damn chuffed with myself :D

Me and OH decided a few months ago that we deserved a holiday. Three years ago we both got made redundant from the same place at the same time and were unemployed for the next six months (with a mortgage each, a crap job centre and payment protection that never paid out for anything... don't get me started on that one    ).

Anyway, we went ahead and booked our first holiday since that little "event" because my parents offered to pay half. We booked at the beginning of June to leave here on 17th August. Holiday all paid for and then I realised that I should probably try and work out how I was going to take any spending money with me. . This isn't quite as desparate as it might sound - we booked all inclusive so spending money doesn't need to be huge. But I still wanted enough to be able to do some nice trips and meals out once in a while.

Right then, how to go about finding £300 (my target plucked out of the air)? I have done all sorts! Car boots (£100), selling 2 bits of old PC's on Ebay (£80), Mystery shopping (£170), ironing and gardening for my Mum (£75!), cashing up my coppers/small coins (£75). For those that don't have a calculator handy, since my final car boot sale yesterday I now have a grand total of £500 sat in the coffee jar by my bed and boy does it look good there! :T :j  :j :T

I have amazed myself with what I have managed to do just by getting my ar*e into gear and making a little bit more effort than usual.

So, in just over a week my OH and me will be sat on a plane to Cuba with a beer in our hands and I will be much more relaxed knowing that I managed to get the spending money together from nowhere in effect (if you see what I mean!).

Of course this means that when I get back, anything left will be thrown straight at my (low rate LOB) credit card and my Mum is already preparing to go into her loft to look for stuff to take to the next car boot!

As I said before, I am just dead chuffed because I have amazed myself and never thought I would get to £500 and just wanted to have a bit of a boast!:rotfl:

Thanks for reading.

Tina

  • Good on you. You'll enjoy yourself even more knowing that you made such an effort. You deserve it because you worked for it.
Wish I'd made as much effort everytime I went on holiday, then my debts might not be so large..... whoops!
