I don't mind advice on where i can make savings but being judged on my parents view on charging rent isn't really what i said
  • Course it is (Edit: What your parents charge you for rent I mean, not as a follow on from your subsequent post! Edited for clarity!), and I think the point everyone was trying to make is not to rock the boat when you're on to a good thing!! You should just thank your lucky stars that it's not a huge amount and make sure you remember to always pay up!! My Mum also includes my bills and I pay just about double what you do. Thing is, my Mum isn't particularly well off and if I forgot or missed a payment she probably wouldn't say anything either, but it would still sting her not to have it. And you never know, parents and children, sometimes we push em to o far, and then life isn't worth living, and usually it's for us!

Your parents may not miss it, but we're fans of realism on the board, and a start as you mean to go on attitude, so I think people were trying to make the point that if you've agreed to make this payment try and make it regularly (fair enough you forget, we all do on occasion, think of the brownie points if you cough up without being asked!), if you'd been renting with a private landlord and done that you may very well have been out on your ear! Thankfully, a lot of us on here with debt problems have very understanding parents, or the corridors of 'shelter' would be overrun with DFW's!!!

But your expenditure was £65 more than your income last month, and that's without paying your full rent.

You couldn't have paid it if they had asked for it.

I'm not lucky enough to have folks to help me out, just dont take em for granted.

    Thats all we were saying.

I'm gonna get pillared here but I'm on Matt's side! I think some people have been a bit harsh with their views!

  • I think the fact that they haven't asked for the rent after you missed a payment shows a complete lack of discipline - maybe one of the reasons why you are so frivilous with your spending? When I lived at home my dad had his hand out as soon as I worked in the door on pay day and straight away I had to put £25 in it (was earning £100 per week at the time and was 16!) and the once I was a few days late with the payment (my work had messed up basically) he didn't believe my reasons for it being late and he wouldn't let me use anything in the house until I paid him! Harsh I know but ever since I have not missed one payment on anything, fair enough by looking at my signature you can see I am in debt but I was one of the lucky ones who had their LBM before it got out of hand - and I have never missed a payment on any of these, nor have I ever paid rent late or borrowed money from anyone.

    Just an opinion...
