Santander text updates

I have applied for a mortgage with Santander and in order to keep track of progress have signed up for their text alerts.

The thing is though, I haven't really received any updates! Has anyone else used this service? How many updates should I expect? I was hoping this would save me the bother of phoning them everyday but it hasn't so far. I got one thus afternoon saying to make sure I send all docs back to avoid delays with my application yet when I spoke to them earlier they said my application was with the underwriter yesterday and had been fine! Does this mean they need more info or what?

Very confusing but in keeping with the trend for santander's average customer service.

I know nothing whatsoever about Santander, but my guess would be that an automated text service in a complicated situation like a house purchase is about as much use as a chocolate teapot - did you pay money to sign up for the service?

  • No I didn't and nor would I.

I think the idea of them is to keep one up-to-date with the key developments, I.e. Application sent/received, approved etc.

They've been rubbish so far though and only increased my confusion and the number of calls I've had to make.

    Me not surprised!

Hi JA, I read some of that thread, I'm not sure where on the forum it is placed, and the last few comments reinforced my view that the whole crappy property market is bolloxed - if somebody wants to buy a house, they should have to put down a deposit there and then, and in the absence of any major problem arising within a short period of time, then they should have no choice but to complete within a very small number of weeks.

Why does it have to be so ferkin difficult?

ps - that's the way we all buy cars, what's the big difference?

I was trying to state that if they Santander can't sort out day to day admin, what hope in hell do we have at them sorting out a text service.

I also agree about buying cars - if we surveyed all house buyers I would bet that 90% would think that you need an estate agent!

The sooner people get over this and we can have a more substanital private property market the better.

Walk in, if you like it make an offer when you agree get the solicitor involved, hopefully the mortgage should be somewhat agree, just like you would have a loan for a car.

However at the moment it is not the EA killing it, they are probably earning their money at the moment.

It's the surveyors - they cannot judge the market and instead of coming in close they are avoiding the true value.

If it wasn't for the totally inaccurate thread title (no fault of the OP - please don't get me wrong!!), this could be the start of a very interesting general discusion, the like of which doesn't come up very often on this forum.
