Credit card debt
renowen
A while back we got ourselves into (for us) alot of debt!
We had rent and council tax arrears, a large catalouge debt, a crisis loan (interest free loan) credit card, student loan AND provident loan.
Its been a hard couple of years but through scrimping and scraping we have cleared rent and council tax arreas, the catalogue debt, the student loan is in hand (comes out my wages) have 1 provident loan payment left and 3 more for the crisis loan.
All that isnt being delt with is the credit card - which tbh should have been sorted first as its the one with the serious interest rate! But as they were the only one NOT chasing us Ive kinda ignored it and delt with everything else first that were threatning us with court and the like!
Once ive cleared Provident and crisis loan I want to sort the credit card out, but im wondering what the best way to do this is?
Id love to do a balance transfer and move it to a 0% interest card so at least the amount doesnt keep growing but im wary of even applying for one because I have a feeling my credit rating will make them say no, and ive been told if you apply and get rejected to many times that knocks the rating down even more!
Any ideas? I dont even know how much I owe as they havnt sent me any statements and Im wary of drawing attention to myself incase they start send the heavies out before im able to actually pay them anything! Ive tried applying to view my account online but basically got a message saying that I wasnt allowed due to state of my account
Ive been stupid - I should never have gotten the damn card but we live and we learn and we have worked so hard to manage our debts so I just want to get this last one out the way with the least pain possible
Any advice greatly appreciated
xx

I'm a little confused? you say you havn't got statements for your card so you don't know what state the accounts in. Have you missed payments?
or had letters from the card company?
I'm not the best person for advice, but after following the threads for the last couple of months I know what questions our "Heros" will ask.
Anyhow I hope this helps tee things up the cavalry will be along shortly.

Yes I have missed payments - rather alot I think seeing as I got the card in Feb 2008! Before anyone tells me how stupid ive been I know I was VERY stupid a couple of years ago and have been paying for it (literally) every since!
I havnt recieved a statement from them since ..... well a very long time, and I havnt had any chasing letters either?! This is why its been so 'easy' to ignore and concentrate on other debts.
Im not sure why I havnt heard from them, but I dont want to contact them until I have the funds to start paying them back (which I will have in July once Ive cleared Provi and crisis loan, perhaps sooner) or some sort of plan in mind.
Thanks for replying

Hi, get over onto never-in-doubts unenforcability thread, niddy, darkconvict and the guys are your best source of advice. See what they say, there are things you could get in place before contacting the card company so that they cant come down heavy. If you are going to make an offer of payment its best that you are in the driving seat.

I would try one of the free trials for your credit report as it should show up there, it is strange you have had no contact from themBusy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0

SoS for not getting back to you, I had to nip out for an hour, I see DarkConvict posted the thread for you. Have you changed address since taking out the card? I just wonder if this is the reason for no contact or default notice. As to checking with one of the credit reference agencys good idea, but when you give them your details and link addresses you have to be ready to expect the card company or DCA (if they have sold the debt).
I will keep a lookout to see how you progress,
