Just another thought...
Ever since i have been struggling with my debts, i have had either one worry or another on my mind. Its the way i am but im dealing with it:p
I was looking at one of Skylights posts today, and realised that if you use credit without the means of paying it back, then it is not fraud. Now i have not taken out credit with the intention of not paying it back, but i have been constantly worried that i have done something wrong that will land me in big trouble. I dont know if my words are coming out right, but what im trying to say is at times, we probably all get things out of proportion because we are stressed and confused. I have been convinced that i would get sent to prison for using credit when i shouldnt have for essentials. I would love to see a list of myths and truths for us newbies.
Thanks for listening.:j

Thanks sunnylooloo
I was hoping that i hadnt made it totalling confusing. It seems to me that i have been making life and the BIG BR decision more complicated than it needs to be, and mainly i have done that by WHAT IFS and thinking the worst will happen to ME!!!!
Its also a lack of confidence as this is new to me. If someone asked me a question about Children, Domestics or one of lifes emotional problems id be there like a shot!!
Just a thought. Id be interested what others think

This one.Imprisionment for fraud. Okay, extreme, but its a consequence of BR if they discover fraud has taken place and your BR is a result of that fraud and they then pass the matter over to the police; because fraud is a criminal thing.
But this is a bit like saying that the worst outcome from driving a car is death (if you can see the comparision; highly unlikley).
The worst as a direct result of BR is a 15 year BRO - Bankruptcy Restriction Order, where your BR restrictions are continued past your BR. So no being an MP or getting credit over £500 without telling the creditor you are under a BRO. Its unlikely you will get one of these too. Only really naughty people get these, such as taking out credit with no means of paying it back (which surprisingly is not regarded as fraud!) or not co-operating with the OR. BR is not a criminal thing; its a civil matter so there are no prision threats with debt. Being BR or debt is not cause for sending you to prison at all.
And yes - its OK! I just wanted to check what I had said!
But I do agree - you worry about the worst thing that can happen. That's natural; as humans we worry about everything. I suppose its a consequence of having a brain that is unable to not think!0 -
Thanks. didnt want to upset you x0

I think it is safe to say that if you have done something really wrong you would know it, and you would know it whilst you were doing itHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
When I went bankrupt I thought I was going to be pulled up for something, accused or repremanded for being reckless etc..
As it happens, nothing. I guess I have just been branded stupid for the next 6 yrs (3.5now) and that's my punishment.
I have a credit card with a £250 limit now, and I use it very wisely.. can't imagine access to the amount of credit I had before.. when a 5k loan didn't seem much... lol - silly old me huh!9/70lbs to lose
