You may be able to argue that, because you feel that the employer doesn't trust the fact that you are doing the work, the employment contract has been breached.
I don't want to make this complicated so I'll try to simplify.

Every employment contract has an implied term. This is the mutual duty of trust and confidence between both parties. If your employer is saying he doesn't trust you to do the work so that he has to watch you then he is saying he doesn't trust you which could be seen as a breach of contract.

if this breach is fundamental you can no longor work under that contract which means you have been constructively dismissed.

No guarantee that a tribunal will see it like that though.

This is just my two pence. Don't go and do anything hasty....

There was actually a TV programme along these lines. I think it was a BBC3 thing and I can't remember what it was called. The boss got this TV bloke in after having covertly filmed his staff for a while and this bloke then got down to the business of disecting the co and making it work better. The point I'm making is, if they didn't tell the staff on this programme, then I guess your boss doesn't have to tell you either. I'll try to look up the name and post it if I can find it.

Actually, here it is - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/ferocious_mr_fixit.shtml
