Bad Credit Rating, No Debt, but wants to improve Credit

Hi,
I could do with some help. I am now out of debt after being silly with money at a young age. I am now settled live with my partner and have a child, however i still have a bad credit rating. I work part time and have nothing to pay each month other than my sons nursery fees.
I have managed to get credit with a catalogue which i have had for over 6 months and I always pay for anything I have bought within the interest free opt out months. However this is a slow process. I am currently learning to drive, so i am looking to get car finance of no more than £150 per month, however this seems unlikely as no one will lend to me.
I was wondering if anyone new who I could get credit with, which isnt way over the top in interest (probably very unlikely).

Please go easy on me as this is my 1st post.. So not sure if this is posted in the right place.

    Hi and welcome

    These 2 links should help,

people are advised to slowly rebuild their credit using a subprime card each month but paying it off in full each month to ensure you don't pay the really high interest rates.

Once you have done this for a year or so your credit will be a bit better (although if you have CCJs and defaults in the last few years they remain for 6years from the date they were entered).

Instead as this will be your first car could you start saving the £150s now each month and then buy a car for a few hundred pounds (which will be much cheaper to insure anyway).
