The Hop Diner Newcastle - letdown

Options
I never thought i would say this but The Hop has seriously went downhill. Used to look forward to going to it but after a recent visit i am vvvvv disappointed. The food used to be absolutely devine and the service great. I was there lately and the food was not good at all and smaller portions [but not smaller prices]. Also service and hygiene not good. I really hope this was a blip or something!! Has the management changed or what has happened???

Tried it once about 4 months ago, looked great but food was ordinary and service was poor, thumbs down from me too

Totally agree with you, we have been regular customers of the hop for quite a while, maybe going once or twice a month.
Hadn't been there in a while and went last week.... three of us went, first two meals arrived 10 minutes before the third; when it did arrive my friend said that she had asked for vegetable lasagne, the waitress said it was..... but she couldn't explain the mince meat! Well that went back and another 10 minutes later a 'power' microwaved sloppy meal was served.

At the end I complained and stated I wouldn't be back due to the poor service (the poor service was more than the meal mix up, dirty table, smell from toilet and also couldnt bring us condiments for the table... WE only asked 4 times)! I asked had the chef/kitchen staff changed and was told no. I was charged the full amount for all the meals even with the errors. Will not be back and would advise others to avoid it. I have actually written to the owner to let them know how bad it was.

I took my three children and nephew there in August last year for my youngest sons birthday, after visiting coco's. The service was not great and there were flies in the vinegar. I complained to the waitress who brought me a different bottle, but this also had flies in it. My daughters meal arrived quite a bit after the rest of us had got our meal and her chips were hard and unedible. We too were charged the full price despite our complaints, and it wasn't a cheap meal - Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying money for good food!!! I vowed I would never set foot in it again, and I haven't.

Where is this place located in Newcastle? I haven't seen or heard of it.

Is it up near the Slieve Donard or is it at the other end of the town?

Slieve Donard end, other side of the road from Mauds and back a bit, if you know what I mean

Gawd, I haven't seen flies in vinegar since Forte's in Armagh, must have been about 1970!
