How to make a Fascinator

I need a fascinator but they are so expensive to buy. Don't want to wear a hat although it is a formal occasion, thought a simple fascinator would be prefereable. Think I could probably make one. Anyone know where I could find instructions.

Sorry - I must be thick - I don't even know what a fascinator is.....!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I know what they are now - I've just had a look online. They do look fairly simple to make. I'd start with a visit to Superdrug or Claires accessories for the basic comb/alice band and then try a good sewing shop for pretty bits. I hope you are fairly artistic though because I know if I made one it would be a complete mess. I had to get a special head dress made for my daughters communion this year ( nowhere sold the kind that she had set her heart on) and a local dressmaker made it for her very cheaply. I supplied all the bits though. You could also try looking at craft shops on ebay..... I don't think you would even need instructions - just go with the flow......:rotfl: :rotfl:

if I am right, it's the montage of feathers etc which you put in your hair in place of a hat:p
I wouldn't know how to make one Im afraid thought0 -
Yes, it is something you wear instead of a hat. Just think a hat is too fussy for me and something a bit more simple would be better, but they are so expensive. Thought buying all the bits and having a go myself would be much cheaper.0

Oh those! There was a thread on here a few weeks ago from someone who eventually ended up making it and reckoned it was much easier than they thought. If there's a TJ Hughes near you, they had lots there for under £12. Debenhams also had loads in recently. I agree with the other mce - I doubt you'd need instructions; just go and look search online for 'feather fascinator' and you'll find loads of pictures which should help. Most of the ones I've seen seem to use a large comb rather than an alice band, and some have a very tiny Juliet cap, which you should be able to get hold of in anywhere that sells craft supplies.0

You started this post a while ago but if you're still looking I might be able to help as my mum makes fascinators. A few of them are lsited on ebay (search for hayleyc in community and see the items for sale). They are just a few but you can see prices are good. She'll make one up to your colour/style/size requirements too if you want. Let me know as I'm sure she'd help you get one.0

If you are not so crafty then this is a good example of ones that would just need an alice band, a fake flower and a feather stuck to it.

Have a look in Hobbycraft, they have loads of gorgeous feathers, ribbons and details to add to fascinators, they also sell combs and give away free instructions leaflets. What more could you ask for?!
Fascinators are so expensive in the shops and you can make you own original versions to match your outfit perfectly. Get ideas from the internet and shops and then make your own version. You will save ££££££££££.0
