Can I get Jobseekers allowance?

I had a baby 9 months ago and my maternity pay ran out last week. I want to look for a job but I need to work it around my baby as Im not going to put her in childcare. The work I would look for would be something I can do at home while she has her naps or in the evenings when she goes to bed. Can I claim jobseekers allowance for this?
Also what would happen if I decided to go self employed as I make crafty type things and would like to sell them eventually - would I have to pay back any of the JA or would I just cease to receive it?
ALSO (sorry!) I dont want any of this to affect my child allowance - it obviously would affect my tax credits but thats ok as I only get £10 a week as my husband earns £28k.
Many thanks

If you don't get enough replies to this, try the benefits & tax credits board:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=139£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500
"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0
