csa arrears

im pretty desperate at the moment. im aself employed nrp and have been contacted by the csa reguarly over the last six years. on every occasion ive given them the information they requested and paid as requested. i set my business up three years ago and had nill assesments for the first two years... due to set up costs and like most businesses i didnt make any profit for the first two years. ive just got my latest assemsmenmt based on this years tax return and been assessed accordingly. the problem is that they have stung me for arrears for the last year i guess most people with a business will come up to a point when in effect they are asking for two years maintenance in one hit. add to this the fact that the business is only just recovering after a difficult winter and i need every penny im making to keep afloat..i also got a huge tax bill. im not evan taking a wage out of it at the moment. The amount they are asking for is definately enough to put me under. add to this that last year when i was making a little bit of profit i handed over £130 a month directly to my child. i just cant see an end to this i woke up this morning and felt like jumping off a bridge.:(

Nothing is worth jumping off a bridge for! Your child still needs both parents and whilst it may seem dark today, stick with it and it will get better.

Have you told the CSA that you were giving the PWC £130 a month? How did you give her the money? If the PWC is willing to tell the CSA that she has already had that money then you can take it off your arrears - you can also do this if you have paid by a traceable route such as internet banking clearly marked child maintenance. If they are not prepared to do that then unfortunately that is classed as a voluntary contribution and will not be deducted.

Have you contacted any other support groups such as NACSA or families need fathers for help? They may be able to give you more specific advice and support than an open forum.

    Take care ;)

  • hi there,
thanks for your reply.... only im not the father im the mother. i hadnt heard of the nacsa. i will look them up. im going to see the accountant today but in my heart i think the only thing i can do is close the business down. ive had 6 years of this trash and paid the ex a fortune over and above their requests in the beginning. we are talking less than 12000 a year 2500 to the tax man 1000 to accountants and now over 3500 to the csa. no more blood in this stone:rotfl:YOU HAVE TO LAUGH!

    hadenough2 - apologies :D

Mother or father then the child has the right to see and have input from both parents, unfortunately there are few organisations which run support groups for mothers which are NRP's but NACSA ( www.nacsa.org.uk) is great, they will give you excellent advice and hep you fight your case should you need to.

If you are going to give money to your ex you really need to do it in a traceable manner, then if you choose to give them more money you can but also the CSA can see that you are fulfilling your liability. It doesnt have to be by internet banking, a receipt book is good enough.

Take care of yourself and no bridges today!!

Can I just ask why, when you apparently owe child maintainance through the CSA, where you paying £130 per month directly to your child. It seems rather a daft way of doing things, as surely her pwc should have that to go towards bringing the child up. Apologies if i have got the wrong end of the stick, but it does seem a little odd.!!
  • hi... when i got assessed last year i got a nil assesment it goes on your latest tax return. my daughter wanted to go on a school trip to america and i paid it to the school. i felt i should be doing something on a regular basis and it was an ideal thing to do. now looking back i cant believe how stupid i was... the only thing i can take comfort from is that my daughter is a perfect pupil (no really she is!) and she really did deserve to go. spoke to accountant today and he is going to stall them... i have a busy period coming up where i make most of my years money so im going to open a seperate account and put some in to start the payments. apparently this goes on till she either leaves school or turns 19. ive decided to postpone jumping off the bridge till a later date!
