It's good for me to know about these things anyway, and it only takes 5 minutes to search stuff on google when you know what you are looking for.

    Good luck!

Depending on how much sight the person has, they can use screen magnifiers or screen reading software.

I've been for a few short interviews for call centre companies, They probably chuck names into a hat and pick them at random.
  • A friend of mine is blind, he has a huge magnifying glass on the screen.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

There is specialist screen reading software that does just that, for people who have no or little eyesight.

As other people have said, there are different methods such as the magnification and screenreading software (just have a look at your own control panel/accessibility options for starters)...but it just goes to show how easily people can make assumptions about what another person can and can't do.

(And just for general info, thankfully only a small percentage of people 'registered blind' have no sight at all....and, no, having a white stick does not automatically mean the person is able to read braille!)

TheBottomLine....Do you know about the RNIB's 'employment service'? might be worth contacting them as they can help you AND any prospective employer. Employers may not realise that they can get help for, at least some, adaptations that you might need in the workplace....

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks again for the info folks, just a quick update for you. I contacted the company with my concerns and after a meeting with them the matter is resolved to my satisfaction - but I can't go into details as part of the agreement.

And as to how I can read and post on the forums, well I have my butler do it! ;)
Only 3% of those registered blind in the UK have zero vision.

I think you may find with quite a lot of good companies things are the opposite, these days a lot can be gained both financialy frome grants and reduced payments and Stratigically from Advertising and awards, for employing someone classed as disabled. A company I worked for 4 years ago almost begged me to let the company doctor examine me and help me to register disabled due to me having severe rhumatoid arthritis even though it is fully controlled by drugs, why? They would get a grant that covered all insurance payments and any modifications to equipment and also they would be eligable for a free page and advertising on a website for employers friendly to disabled workers. Needles to say I made sure I got something out of it, but don't think that a rejection is automaticaly for your disability when in fact it can often put you in a better position
