I would like to make this recipe but it calls for plain flour and bicarbonate of soda, can I substitute this for self raising flour?

I would've thought so. I've made this cake before and it doesn't rise much. I would've thought the guinness and soured cream in it will stop the SR flour doing its job too well.0
