Hey everyone, I know that there's a mention about Etsy on the boost your income article but I want to hear from etsy sellers specifically if poss
I'm toying with the idea of selling soft furnishings etc and wanted to know if other sellers do it part time or full time etc? I'm also interested in the time line involved for the production of your items, do you make them as and when they are ordered or do you make a batch and then list?? Eek so many questions.....:D

I've only sold vintage knitting patterns on Etsy so far, but other people on here do use the site- not sure how much they sell though. Other people also use Folksy too (a sort of UK version of Etsy). I think most people make a load of things then list them - but you can also make to order if you want - I'm not sure anyone is making a full time income from it - I think these times are too tough at the moment.
If you ask on the Trash to Cash: The dribbling never ends thread (in Boost your Income) several people on there use Folksy and Etsy - they're a friendly bunch they'll give you some ideas- ask away!

Hi,
I use both etsy and folksy, which one is best depends on what you are selling, although etsy has a much wider audience as its not only people from the USA but also other countries that look at it, where as folksy tends to be more UK buyers.
Id recommend making a batch of your item if you can and listing them one or two a day, that way you will be at the top of the page in the category so more people will see it therefore making it more likely to sell.
There are a few people on the sites that make a living from selling their crafts, but they are a minority, especially with jewllery makers.
Give it a go and see how it turns out, be aware of all the costs though as folksy is going to start charging commision from the first of may and etsy already does
Hope that helps, if not message me and ill try my best to help

Hi fashion,
I'm a big fan of etsy. I've had more than one shop on there (I make different styles of jewellery and wanted to keep them separate as they're very different). I've all but ceased using my first shop as I don't make the kitsch type jewellery anymore, but I think that ended with 155 sales which wasn't too bad as it was a side project when I was at uni. Sometimes I'd go weeks without listing anything on there so as you can tell I wasn't exactly doing the best job of promoting the shop. I don't think it's possible to make a full time job out of it unless you've got a really niche product, but it's good for a bit of extra income. I myself usually make one item and will make another up if it sells as I make jewellery so it doesn't take too long. Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £182,525.16Overpayments since 27.03.19: £59,482.47Moving fund so far £4000 - Premium bonds £4,0000
