So that would be like the risible '5 a day' scam, would it? The one finally revealed last week to be a load of rubbish and a complete waste of millions of pounds of tax payers' money.
Doesn't the government interfere enough in people's lives?0 -

It might well be in the millions the amount spent on the 'five a day scam'.
It must be billions on health spending and benefits for those no longer able to work through diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure etc.
Are you advocating the status quo or do you have an alternative?0 -

From a cold blooded actuarial point of view - yes. Encourage people to die young. It's old age and propping-up the elderly that costs money.
There are many angles to the obesity issue and the belief that the best solution is through the regulation of diet, is a little naive. The science is enormously complex and far from resolved.
Moreover, it is not the government's business to dictate what people eat. Do you really want to be nannied to that degree? I suspect most people would find it completely unacceptable.0 -

vote this scummy communist government out - they will extend the nanny state until we live a totalitarian society.
the control freaks like harman won't stop until they control everything0 -
It should be described as the "ANNUAL deficit".
I suspect many in the populace just think we have 160bn to find; not 160bn EACH year; were the deficit to remain constant.
I can't see the politicians rushing to correct this misinterpretation either!
that is what I thought it was, surprised to see this is each year0
