Urgent assistance for friend!

 My friend has been out of work for 5 months after previously being on v good salary £30kplus. When he was made redundant he forgot to cancel the SO going to his other account so each month it was returned unpaid. therefore balance increased above £1k authorised OD and charged were applied. Bank has now passed to DCA and advised him that account whilst open, he has no access to it and any payments that go into it will be swallowed up. He is starting a new job next wk so salary won't commence until mid Sept. DCA have said that he must clear £1150 today or else they will be in touch. What are the procedures here? He will be earning good money again but I would guess that it would take him some months to clear this OD as outgoings remain high...... No LBM yet.....

His wife is obviously concerned about baliffs etc. He has ignored letters from bank......

Thanks in advance.

Update, he called the CCCS like I told him to, amazingly and they have told him to make token payments and to clear as soon as possible and no baliffs for at least 28 days.

Likelihood is the DCA will take many months of letters and calls before it gets to baliffs/court proceedings. I suggest he gets on the phone to these guys (rather than waiting for them to ring him) and explain the situation. Agree to a repayment plan that begins when he gets his first wage packet. These guys have probably bought the debt for peanuts and stand to make a good deal if he's going to repay over only a few months. If you get an idiot on the phone, ring again and speak to someone else! It always comes down to what sort of mood the guy is on the other end of the phone. (this backfired with me once with NTL when I got the same b@stard who I'd just rang off from. He said youve just been speaking to me and I came up with something like "Oh, I was hoping to find someone at your company who was more helpful". No chance at NTL of course.....) ;)

Apparently when he spoke to the W***** at the DCA, and offered to pay it in total next month, he said to him well can't you get someone to lend you the money until then. While they are a nightmare, can you imagine having to actually do their job? No way in a million years!!

make sure he has his new salary paid into an account with a bank that he has no dispute with otherwise they may use his salary to settle the debts /Overdraft owed to them.

Oh I have told him to go to Natwest and open up a step account as he must have done some harm to his credit record already. thanks for the pointer. The problem is, they will never have their LBM now he has the new job, shame eh?
