remember little kids like little pieces of food!

make home made tray bake cakes and cut them into tiny squares about 2cm square, cut sandwhiched into 8, grapes cut in half! sausages grilled then cut into rings, only a few crisps ect put out at a time open new packs if needed, fairy buns with glace icing are lovely! mini rolls cut into slices, jelly and icecream give small portions or i find cheap choc ices are good and need no bowls! tiny peices of cheese, if you leave plates of cheese ect in the fridge you can bring them out if the table seems to be getting a bit bare or use later for yourself or cooking thus saving wastage, try to encourage the children to take small amounts of food and eat them before putting more on the plates, but remember u may be eating party food for days if you make too much!

how about a pirate theme> make hats ect for them

2 yr olds do not need a party bag! balloons and a piece of cake is fine! if you dont start the party bag thing now you will be free of it for ever! my 4 kids 9-14yrs old tell their friends that mum dosent believe in party bags she says they are part of our consumerist society! a bit much for a 2 yr old i grant you!!! but their friends dont seem to mind and have grown used to not having them at my parties I do put a piece of cake in a bag and give them a balloon! and they go away quite happy

    Hi,

Someone else may have suggested this elsewhere but try https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies, there are loads of makes on there, particulary under "doodle-do" (it's all done by picture icons so you may need you 2 year old to help!). I pretty sure I've seen loads on there for party invites, masks etc!

How about a themed birthday party with say a farm theme -

    - You can be Old Macdonald and the kids can wear homemade headresses that make them each a different animal
    - 'Make different animal sounds' competition

And so on. However, it may be better to do this next year or the year after - I don't really know if a two yo is up to this.

I would say keep it simple minisandwidches with various filling will go down well with most kids and so will pieces of fruit, cheese, biscuits and mini cakes. Put out a lot of toys and they will amuse themselves!! If the weather is still good and you have a garden you can ask people if they have tents/tunnels etc that you can boorow and have them play outside it will allow you to sperate eating and playing areas
