  • thanks for that - yes will definitely cut out the Sunday paper but will probably still buy the local rag on a Friday - only about 55p. No magazines for me - friend bringing me some 2nd hand ones.

Will definitely bulk buy the cat food as soon as I see it on offer.

I am also definitely going to start shopping at Aldi for at least half our groceries.

I have started the spending diary - love the graph it produces - and after a month I will be able to see where the money is still going and needs cutting out from.

No NSD today as the window cleaner came and needed paying. Going to cut windows down to once a month instead of once a fortnight.
Have taken own lunch for last 2 days - beans and sausage with 2 slices of toast - yum and cheap.

    Thanks everyone. :)

Not sure whether to be proud or ashamed - I last had my windows cleaned about 5 years ago! Still, it's a double saving - no need for net curtains!

  • I never had a window cleaner at all at my last house so when we moved here I wanted to start as I mean to go on - but I am happy to reduce it.

Any tips on keeping track of posts on threads - I can never remember what I have commented on! :o

On the left hand side of the DFW forum index there are lots of orange or yellow coloured envelopes, if one of these has a white arrow over it, it is a thread you have posted on.
I'm not criticising about the window cleaning or anything, just realised what a slobby cheapskate I am. Mind you, one of my other money saving tips is to never iron anything to save electricity so there you go.......
Sorry about the partial use of italics but I'm slightly drunk (wine bought with money saved on electricity!)
    Love,

In the green bit at the top of each thread (there is probably a technical name for it but I don't know!) is a link that says 'thread tools' If you click on that you have some options, one of which is 'subscribe to this thread', so click on that and follow the instructions. Only takes a moment.
You can unsub just as easily.

  • LD, drunk on a Thursday?... LOL!!!

Thanks - that's good to know about the symbol on the left - its too easy to lose track of where you've commented.

Thanks Miggy - I have subscribed to 4 threads... :-)

What about your savings of £12K have you any plans to use some or all of this to pay down debt? I'm not sure what you meant by putting some on 0% and then paying a £100 per month? and then doing the same again after a year - what is your thingking behind that?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
