Anyway, that gives me 12 days until payday. £30 of that money will be spent on getting to work - i.e. £15 a week if I drive very economically. Which leaves me £20 for food for 12 days.

Hello and welcome  Have you seen this thread? It gives lots of tips on how to live for a short while on a little money and a storecupboard :)

For sandwiches, I'd make a mackerel pate - cheap, tasty and nutritious :D

Cheap meat (especially mince) can be false economy - once the fat has sweated out, you're left with less real meat than you thought :( I'd use a local butcher, but as much good quality mince as you can afford, then bulk up with lentils - cheap and good for you :)

I'll add this to the above thread later.

custardy thanks - will have a look on gumtree now, I was only expecting to get £50 for it, so any more is a bonus. It's a 96 fiesta, it still runs and drives, but think the clutch was going, none of the locks work etc etc. Would be good for spares so may find someone on gumtree willing to give me something for it. £200 would be simply awesome!!

EDIT - did try webuyanycar a while back and it was £50 on there. Minus the admin fee I think I'd actually walk away with a tenner if I was lucky!

Check out this thread - lots of money saving coupons you can use.

For example there are 2 coupons off Airwick Aqua Mist at £2.99 each. These are £1.50 in Sainsburys so if you give them 2 coupons you will get £3 off your shopping. Free Milka chocolate and a bottle of free Candia Milk and lots more.

All these little things save a fortune.

Some great suggestions here, I knew this would be the best board to post something like this on.

Thanks everybody, much appreciated. Trying to save for a house deposit as well so if I can cut back even more on my day to day spending I'm sure it will all add up!!

What I do have is my old car (didn't put it in for it's MOT a couple of months ago as it needs FAR too much doing) So I was also wondering about where the best place to get most money for that is. There's a few adverts in the back of the local paper ranging from £50 to £100 for scrap cars, so figured one of those might be worth a go.

Does it start up and go? Try an auction on ebay starting at £99, you may be surprised and impressed what you will get.

Also, gets it out of the way:D

Sounds like you got good plan already with what you have in storecupboard ect.

A lot depends on where you shop.

brought cheap cream chese lidls other day 58p I think
hubby also weirdly likes those prices sandwich pastes in jar 45p each ind lidls.
sainsburys normally has big block of chese 3.50-3.99 bogoff or 2quicd half price, have also tried sainsburys basic chese its ok.

Homemade tomato chutney super easy and cheap to make might be good in sandwiches.

Have tried tesco value crips before they ok.

definatly make sure you have enough

    rice
    dried pasta
    passata for pasta sauces/pizza ect
tinned tomatoesstock cubges can make casseroles or curry even if you have some spice.
    tomato puree
I have 2girls who eat lots and cheap/healthy meals are

dried pasta with pasata mixed dried herbs or basil and tin of tuna chunks mixed in, small amount grated chese on top.

definatly buy tuna cheapest i foudn was 58p in lidls as can be used for sandwiches.

    Another fishy dish

I used to buy big bag frozen fish from iceland think it was 4quid for 4cod fillets and 5pound for 4 salmon.

    put on baking tray frozen
pour over small amount of oil
    1carton passata
    bake for 15-20mins
sprinkle over dried herbs grated chese another 15mins at 200 its lovley baked fish great with salad, potatoes or ven mashed up in pasta.

savoury rice, rice cooked in water with 1stick cube frozen veg from freezer mixed into cooked rice normally peas and sweetcorn.

any tubs as can take meals into work instead of sandwiches.

i adore wraps they were on offer 87p in sainsburys other week.

I buy girls value mini pittas from co-op or sainsburys 25p-35p for 5
    add tomato puree and spread
    grated cheese and herbs
put under grill or micro 30-45sec
    quick pitta pizza

Although homemade pizza really easy and cheap to make yourself I use jaimie oliver dough recipie and sauce is chopped onion and passata with chilli herbs and cheese on top.

alternativly toast pitta under grill or in toaster
    cut into strips/fingers
make a cream, chese and herb dip or salsa with passata, tinned tomatoes.
    kids love houmous with pitta

ohh a lovley one belive it or not is savoury pancakes but instead of desert fill with savoury filling like sandwich like chese and ham or chese and onion.
I love red onion in sandwiches lidls sell whole bag for about 50p aldos have similar fruit/veg deals, maybe try local greengrocer too or reduced veg section in supermarket.

I personally love smoked salmon, sainsburys do basics salmonj trimmings 98p a pack on crackers with cheap cream cheese and drizzle lemon juice on tops its lovley.

chicken i buy sainsburys thighs/legs mix 1.99 5peices, colmans /swartz casserole mix 98p sometimes mixes are 3 for 2, chopped onuon, garlic served with rice or mashed potato serves 2 maybe 3portons for about 3.50.

diced bacon por pancatta in pasta insteda of mince.i always go for good quality lean mince as cheap stuff crap but can use half and stretch out with red lentils, oats even.

bread can buy cheap or try making own.look for reduced too.
lidls ciabbatta mix 99p makes 2loafs so 50p a lkoaf dead easy, tesco cakes, bread mixes less than 50p a pack.

snacks-can you forage any fruit, berries ect
flapjacks, cheap sponge cake ot twinks hobnobs.
dried currents sainsburys do basic sultanas like raisens.

drinks defo double concentrate squash 2litres 2.50 in tesco or sainsburys
    value orange juice is fine

coffee has to be gold sainsburys 1.39

    milk 1quid 4pints in iceland.
think larger packs eggs 15-18pack better value as so much you can do with eggs

    scrambled egg on toast
    boiled egg soldiers
    egg and bacon sandwich
fritta dead easy just throw in chese and whatever veg got spare
omlette we noramlly do chese and bacon or cheese and ham.
egg and cress sandwich-cress grows supoer quick and cheap to buy.

good luck we tight until payday too so doing all i can to stretch it but we family or 4.

hard boiled eggs mashed up with a little mayo and maybe a sprinkle of curry or chilli powder for a bit of a kick.I don't know if you can still buy mustard and cress in the little square boxes I used to put that on with the kids sandwiches in the summer rather than lettuce as it didn't go quite so soggy.I would never buty 'plastic ham'in slices as its just too boring .How about a small tin of pilchards or sardines mixed with tomato ketchup and some sliced tomato on top in a sandwich.sandwiches have to be a bit tasty with a bit of a zing in them, otherwise you just get bored trying to eat them.

you could buy a tin of corned beef...

    this should last you too,

just make sure you put it in the fridge before you open it, and it is suprising how thin you can cut it:rotfl: you can then make corned beef and onion sandwiches. CB an tomato sauce sauce, CB and tomato etc,

you can also use some of the corned beef for an evening meal, with mashed potatoes and beans...
