I haven't read the whole thread but I'm going to be tight for money in November and did a shop at Lidl today that I think saved me lots of money on what I would spend at the main supermarkets. I would try Lidl for some good deals.

For example I got a pork loin joint that I think will feed the two of us for two meals for £1.99, sausages for 99p, £1.79 for 18 bags of skips/nik naks. They have some real great deals!

Saute the aubergine and courgette with a little onion and garlic, add a tim of tomatoes and heat together till as soft as you like it, pour over cooked pasta and top with some grated cheese and a sprinkle of parmesan.

Parsnip part boiled, coated in batter and deep fried is a filling vegetable. Or use with mashed carotts and potatoes a little nutmeg and coat in breadcrumbs and fry to make veg and potato cakes.

Hiya, I need to live on what is in my house this month with the exception of about £50 - £100 for food i really need. Now the problem i have is i have loads of the same foods, i am a terrible cook and tend to live on snacks & sandwiches/toast or my kids cook (with my supervision). I can make roast dinners usually or beef stew and have a steamer & slow cooker/acti fry. I buy loads in but dont have a clue what to do with it really, so need a little help on that score please. There is me & 3 kids (17/12/11) so between us i am sure we can work out how to cook something other than joints. They are bored of eating the same things. We just need ideas- everytime we think of something we always seem to have stuff missing or it looks far to hard/ or we dont know what some of the stuff is.

    In my freezer I have
    4 x 8oz sirloin steaks 6x pork loin chops
    3lb stewing steak 3 x 600g gammon joint 15 lamb chops
    6x 6oz sirloin steaks 3 x roast beef joints 15x 3/4lb burgers
4 packs bacon, 20 chicken breasts, 4 chicken legs, 10 fish fingers , 2 pork joints, 4 cornish pasties 2 bags frozen veg, 2 puff pastry & 2 shortcrust pastry, 4 bread and 16 pints of milk, 5 assorted pizzas.

Storecupboard i have quite a bit also i think
1kg Rice, 4kg pasta, 2 pkts of spaghetti ,Ryvita x 4 boxes, taco kit, 4 cans veg soup, 2 can tomato soup, 1 can mushroom soup, 2 pea & ham soup, 2 can spaghetti hoops, 2 x savory rice pkts, 12 packs of super noodles, 2 boxes instant potato, 10 hotdogs, 6 cans beans, 3 cans sweetcorn, 2 cans curry sauce, stockcubes - beef/lamb/chicken, dried mixed herbs, chilli powder, 2.5kg plain flour/ 1.5kg self raising flour, dried yeast (1 box) small pack raisans, tub baking powder, lemon juice, maple syrup/golden syrup, 20 bags crisps, weetabix, rice crispies, crunchy nut cornflakes, 4 bags potatoes. Tea/ Coffee/ Sugar (brown /white)

Garden - a whole row of what i think is beetroot and about 15 cooking apples and loads of herbs (but i dont know what they are except 1 is purple sage though)

Fridge - milk, marg, 3 bags of grated cheese, 1 block of strong cheddar, 3 x primula cheese, 1 tub dairylea, 6 eggs, bag carrots, 1 brocolli, diluting juice, 2 bottles vodka, 6 John Smiths, 1 bottle red wine, 2 white wine,6 cans lager, coke/ diet coke, tin of roses & quality street

Thanks for your help & ideas

You could make soup with the beetroot, sausage casserole with the hotdogs, chicken casserole, beef curry, a rice bake (cooked rice in a dish, cover with cooked veg - broccoli, sweetcorn, then top with cheese sauce. Bake in the oven until piping hot :)

Take a look at this thread on dividing your food into food groups rather than location :D (I'll merge this later).

    Good luck!
