  • Thanks Shopaholic,

He has been a bit more receptive so far this evening.

Not sure about the XBox - I made him sell his PS3 just before Xmas. TBF hasn't bought any games for 6 months now - runs about playing soldiers - you'd think he was 3 not 33!!!!! And the subscription is £40 a year. Don't get me wrong I deffo wantto get out of all this debt but hubby keeps reminding me that it's only £3.33 a month and he doesn't smoke or drink or go out so that's his entertainment.

  • Are we married to the same person? LOL. Although he did sell the PS3 before Xmas, however SKY HD must remain (prob cos we are tied into a contract as new HD customers), XBOX is permanently switched on, Wii is DS bedroom, plus 4 Nintendo DS lying round house.

It's so maddening to think we've been sucked into the YOU MUST HAVE EVERYTHING NOW state of mind. Feel really upset with myself for it.

  • My hubby's the same! He "desperately" wants to save money but he wont get rid of the SKY package, PS3 or give up his cider!!
I am hovering about my lightbulb moment to be honest. Sometimes though I just like to pretend its not happening, but at £30,000 debt I cant do that much longer :(

Come and have your lightbulb moment with us - everyone on here is great, and can give you loads of ideas/suggestions with hubby. I am now thinking about removing his debit card from his wallet and giving him pocket money. He did say it was OK by him if I handled all finances from now on so that sounds fair to me ...................

  • Dont feel sad Kat we are all in that society unfortunately and we are all just as bad! The best thing to do is have a massive clear out of stuff you havent worn for over a year and anything thats not being used ie DS's etc Get on eBay or Gumtree & sell sell sell you will be amazed at how much extra cash you can achieve with little effort! Technology & clothes etc are always changing anyway so once youve got your debts sorted you can then treat yourselves again & feel that satisfied feeling that you brought them with your OWN money :)
Ive done this & just by clearing out things makes you feel better let alone getting cash for them! Take control Kat you can do it x

WebUser magazine Issue 235 had some good ideas (I signed up for a Focus group next week and they sent me a free copy to review).

Anyway, they have a very good feature on 'Make Money Online'.

    Some ideas:

Selling your daughter's four old mobiles - comparison site here:

    www.sellmymobile.com

Sell unwanted CDs and DVDs in bulk (at least 10):

    www.musicmagpie.co.uk

You type in the bar code and it makes you an offer.

Rent out a parking space - if you have room on your drive for another car or if your car is out of the way during the day

    www.parkatmyhouse.com
    www.yourparkingspace.co.uk

There are 50 ideas in the magazine - some better than others. The top 10 are on their website: http://www.webuser.co.uk/help-and-advice/save/450430/10-ways-to-make-money-online
¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?

Biting is excellent. It's like kissing, only there's a winner.

  • Bless you! I just need to sort everything out but its too scary. I have been starting to do little things which have made a difference. The slow cooker is dusted off and back in action and I am trying to bring my own food to work during the day which is good too. I just need a project and its too scary to start just now, I have posted SOAs inhere before but its just not sunk in. I know it should have but in all honesty I keep avoiding the issue!

I've been where you are, but it does get to a point where you face up to it. It's took me a few years (hangs head in shame).

Small changes, like you've started to make all add up though and you'll be amazed at the savings it makes. Good Luck. Kat x
