National lottery is a waste of time. Someone wins, but then again someone else is diagnosed with cancer, or someone else has a lorry crash into their house, or are made redundant etc.
Premium bonds have an advertised average return of a few percent (I can't remember exactly what the number is, 3 or 4%). Anyway, I'd rather have a guranteed return of 5% in an ISA, or make much more than that with a method like matched lay betting where there is no gambling.Happy chappy0 -
Tell the however many hundreds of people who've won the Lottery jackpot that it's a waste of time! Also, I find it odd that people think they're "investing" in Premium Bonds, whose value doesn't even rise with inflation!
Sorry about all the exclamation marks!!!0 -
If you are goint to play the lottery may i suggest playing the main draw on Weds and Sat and euro on friday apart from that its a waste of time.0

The odds on winning the jackpot on the lotto are about 14million to 1
By all means spend a £1 or 2 for the dream of winning but don't realistically expect to win.
The odds on winning a tenner are about 50-1 so if you do £1 a week you should win back a £10 once a year on average..0 -
My only piece of useful advice - if you're going to pick numbers, don't choose numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 - apparently this is the most often picked combination of numbers, so if by chance that came up as the jackpot, you'd lose a large proportion of your winnings to all the other people with the same combination of numbers.
That having been said I always pick 1 2 3 4 5 6. And I win *every* week. Because I don't play - so I win a pound :rolleyes:0 -
And don't play the numbers from "Lost".0

Scratchcards have much better odds (around 20%) than the lottery, but o course how likely are you to win the jackpot? The most I've won is £20 on a scratchcard.
I suppose the main reason for playing the lottery every week is the fear of not playing and then your numbers come up.0 -
Lottery smottery. You may as well chuck your money in the nearest bin (at least it will save you a trip down your local shop)
If you're looking to "win" guaranteed money, get yourself down to the Gambling Introductory Loopholes board on this site and start your hand at matched betting.
It's fun, financially rewarding and you don't have to leave your chair. Even a complete novice can clear £500 profit in under six weeks including Quidco etc cashbacks.
(If you don't believe me, go and ask the kind MSE'rs down there!)"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I enjoy playing the lottery, that £1 buys me the pleasure of fantasising about winning, even though I probably never will!!0
