    E.On, in conjunction with the big water companies, is offering UK households a free ShowerSave water regulator (worth around a fiver). The ShowerSave claims to regulate your water flow to prevent you from wasting water and reduce your yearly bill (up to £46).

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif How to get them...
    [/title]
    To get your free ShowerSave visit Shower Save (click on the banner on the right hand side) before 31 May. Select your water company and it'll redirect you to their order page. Add the freebie to your basket and proceed to checkout. You won't be asked for your card details, only your address.

    If your water company isn't listed, simply pick one of the others, it doesn't matter if you're not supplied by that water company.

    If you choose Wessex Water, Severn Trent Water or Anglian Water then you'll also get a couple more water saving freebies: a save-a-flush (saves you one litre every time you flush) or a self audit leaflet.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif Does it work?[/title]

    If you've got an electric shower or one with multi-jets, unfortunatly you won't be able to use the ShowerSave. The jury's out on how effective this is - ShowerSave claims the gadget can save around £45/year if you're on a water meter but previously MoneySaver plumbers have said "I can safely say these are as useless as a chocolate teapot!". Yet it's free so give it a go and if it doesn't work simply ditch it.

    Why's EON doing this?

    Energy suppliers are obliged to help customers become more energy efficient via grants and offers like this one.

    [title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif Any restrictions?[/title]

    The offer's limited to one per household and includes England, Scotland & Wales. It's subject to availability but there are around 200,000 left. You'll have to allow 28 days before delivery.

    Thanks to xx for the top spot.

    I assume they work by restricting the flow through the shower head, so that you use less water per minute.

    I assume it'd be just as good to turn down the flow rate tap? Certainly this doesn't seem to affect the effectiveness of my power shower.

    Best of all, presumably, is to reduce the time spent under the shower. (We had a guest who spent literally fifteen minutes in the shower, and sometimes did so twice a day - I actually had to turn the immersion heater to the "bath" setting rather than the "sink" setting (enough for two or three human showers and a washing machine and dish washer load).)

    Anyone know typical shower flow rates (litres per minute) and how much water a typical half-full bath takes?

    Homebase have been selling these for a pound for several months, by the way.

    Best wishes, all - Eric

    If this item is as useless "as a chocolate teapot" (it looks like it just creates a smaller hole for the water to go thru'!) why should we help the water companies.
    Obviously if they are supposed to be offering us ways to save water/money then this is a cheap cop out for them. If we join in even, just for fun to see what it is. Then we are helping them to acheve their targets. But it isnt helping us and certainly not in the long run!

    To everyone thinking about signing up, do NOT. I get calls from EON twice a day. Their number is - 08451110272. When you pick up, they hang up and there is no way to block them. Don't take the risk.
