DMP's - I feel let down? Any advice?

Options
Hi there, I have a couple of questions I would be very grateful for answers. I am currently on a DMP with Payplan, it began in Oct 2008 and I owed £12,000. I have paid off £8,000 and owe about £4,000, this was made up of a few credit card debts, some of which were increadibly low balances at the time, (circa £200) the highest was £6,000 on a Tesco credit card. The other was £1,400 of a Barclays o/d. Barclays switched my debt from an o/d to a 'Barclaycard' with extortionate interest.
I was left £1,500 the other month and contacted Payplan to use this to pay off some debt. Barclays apparenly 'laughed' when the offer was made,as they said that as I was making quite substantial payments anyway, they were bound to get their money back from me eventually so they declined the offer. I feel desperate, as I am struggling and have been for so long, I am now in rented accommodation and have lost my home. I think Barclays are acting unlawfully as I have met all my repayments to date and they are effectively charging me from what was an o/d debt (which fees were paid on) to a credit card debt with interest, so it's fees on fees with interest added!? Payplan cannot tell me how much of what I have paid so far has been interest and how much of it is actual debt. Plus they are very, very hard to get hold of and when I email them, they never fully answer my questions.
I am also upset with Barclays because I wrote to claim back bank charges of £1,000 in 2007!! and they held the letter on file pending a decision for over 2 years. Once the most recent decision re: bank charges was made, they wrote and said they would not be paying me anything. I feel so depressed with all this, and the ruthlessness of Barclays especially. I wonder if life is worth living anymore. Please help. Sally Beans

And you need to speak to PayPlan again, if you're on a DMP most banks will stop or reduce interest and charges but they will need to ask them.

  • Thank you for your advice, I will ask them, I am not that impressed with them really, after 2 years.
