What's going on with Capital One?

I have had a credit card with Capital One for a long time now & have always kept my payments up to date.

About a year ago I was made redundent from my job & needed to use the card until I got back into work. I ended up taking the card right to the limit as I'd just had my first child so it was an expensive time. Anyway I maintained paying the minimum payments but and the balance did start noticeably going down after a while.

All of a sudden I had a statement come in saying that I was now over my credit limit & that they were going to charge me for it.

I couldn't possible have done this as I broke the card up as soon as I hit my limit but every time I try to call them to query this, they just hang up on me and won't give me any numbers to get hold of a UK based customer service team.

I was just wondering if anyone else had been having similar trouble with Capital One?

Surely your statement will explain what/why?

Also do you have online access??

    If not register for it

    https://www.capitaloneonline.co.uk/CapitalOne_Consumer/EnrollStep1.do

You should see all you need to know there then query it once you know what the problem is

All I could think of is
    1. you missed a payment so it took you over
    2. They decreased your limit/increased interest
    3. You have something on an annual basis maybe some card protection or the likes that you pay and thats come off so you are over limit?

If you only paid the minimum payment & unless your interest rate was very low then I don't think that the overall balance would have gone down that much. If you are now over your limit, then it is highly possible that Capital One have increased your interest quite a lot. If that is the case & are over your limit now, I suggest that you get some some of answers from them. Surely you must get statements or even able to see your account online???

Do you ever look at your statements?
What difference does it make where the call centre is?

    4. Someone has put a fraudulent charge on your account.
