Hope today has brought better news ... x
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Well, today brought a letter stating that they feel my inexperience in an accountancy office places me at a severe disadvantage! And do I not remember that some letters were returned to me for correction? Ha, ha, ha! I did have some letters returned for correction, but not because I couldn't understand accountancy terms, rather because I couldn't understand the very poor quality of the dictation :D. They also sent me a form stating that they couldn't pay me SSP as I hadn't earned enough.

I tried to phone the boss this morning, but no-one answered. I emailed him again and said that it seemed clear that the company wants to dispense with my services and said that I would stand by their decision, but am displeased at their comments regarding my work.

I'm not so annoyed at losing the job - I know I'll get another as soon as I'm fit. It's the fact that they're saying I gave 'poor performance' and am 'inexperienced'! I'm 38, been typing since I was 13, worked in offices since I was 19. I've never had any complaints about my work, more compliments in fact.

I called the Job Centre and they'll send me out forms to claim for incapacity benefit. Once my employer returns my sick line I can get a claim in.

Thanks to all those who have read and responded! :D

That is unreal! They knew exactly what experience you did or didn't have when they offered you the job! I am a part qualified accountant and still come across endless terms I don't know - it's all part of the learning process!

Excuse the endless exclamation marks - just can't believe their cheek!

On a more positive note, you have been quite realistic in knowing that this was coming, and all credit to you for that (I'd rather have someone on my team with your common sense than someone who knows a few big words!).

You've also been very pragmatic about the whole situation, in that you are putting it down to a bad experience and moving on as quickly as possible.

Best of luck for the future. I hope you're better soon, and that your next position is a much more positive experience!

Let us know if anything else happens!

Sorry to hear about the way the company has behaved towards you, but well done you for being confident about the future... they have weasled their way out of a tough situation that was outside anyone's control. You are well out of there, and I wish you all the best for the future...

I have seen a few threads on forums about people in difficulties with their employers but this is the first that I have seen where I felt that the OP really did nothing to warrent the treatment she received.

The fact that you have been level headed and philisophical about your situation and are so ready to look forward into the future, rather than keep looking in the past is one reason why I myself would want your CV if I was running an employment agency, or could offer you employment.

You will be well suited in any company that deals with now and the future, rather than holds grudges in the past. Your old boss is a fool, you're better off without him and he is NOT better off without you. When word gets around about how you are treated this experience will cost him, but I know you will be too busy to gloat.

    Good luck - but I don't think you'll need it ;)

Any news?! Hope everything is sorted ... x

  • Hi again. Sadly I've not heard a peep out of them since I emailed and said that it seemed clear that the company wants to dispense with my services and said that I would stand by their decision, but am displeased at their comments regarding my work.

I've asked them to send my sick line back to me so's I can claim Incapacity Benefit. Nothing!
I've asked them to let me know whether or not the company has reached a decision on my dismissal or retention. Nothing!

They've not phoned and I've had no responses to my emails. Am a bit confused!

Time to put something in writing in a letter and keep a copy. Are you still signed off on the sick? You will need records of what has gone on for when you sign on for benefits....

Hope you are feeling better, in any case xx

    Any update kibbutzangel?

Hope things are looking up x

  • Hi. No update really, but thanks for asking :). Work have asked for a medical report. I'm still signed off, in pain. Benefits are looking dodgy due to us spending our money (see my other thread). Getting very depressed and worried sick how we're going to manage.

I've decided I'll have to go back to work, but am worried that I won't last long again due to my pain levels (and painkillers which knock me out!). I don't intend working for these people again - I'll get a job through a temp agency and go on from there. My illness is not helping my employment record though :(
