British Gas 10 year Boiler Loan - Mis-sold to Non-English speaking Parents?

OP I would guess the finance is through Lombard Tricity if it's around five years ago? It is the credit company you need to be getting into dicussion with now, I would think. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I don't see what the problem is here, other than the failure of the OP's parents to bother learning English. One good reason why it should be compulsory.
The APR is typical for a loan of this type, indeed at the time it was taken out, that was probably quite competititve for this type of unsecured loan as BoE Base Rate was 6% for most of that year.
Best thing the OP can do is make sure the payments are made or take over the payments themselves.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I understand what you are saying about your parents not speaking good English, but surely they had enough to understand numbers, the arrangements for the fitting etc., weren't the figures on the Credit Agreement in black and white? Not speaking good English doesn't mean they cannot do calculations, how did they manage to get a mortgage to buy a house etc.? These are all written agreements too, are you saying that your parents should not have been given a mortgage because they didn't speak English then? Whether or not the salesman did his job properly, I think you are using your parents language problems as an excuse to get them out of a Credit Agreement which suited them at the time.
I'd also like to say that yet again, my countrymen disappoint me with their intolerant rantings. Having said that, I also believe there is no excuse for living in a foreign country and not learning the language, be it English, German, Mandarin or whatever, you should really persuade your parents that it's time they did something about it, you may not always be available to help them out. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

Long financing periods are common with central heating and other home improvements - it's so you can pay a low amount over a long period, making replacement systems affordable.
British Gas STILL offer 10-year financing on central heating. It's called Flexible Heating Improvement Plan.

So, can you explain again why you think your parents have been mis-sold the finance?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
