Hi Everyone:hello:
My lovely hubby has found an abandond set of glass octagonal storage jars at work which he has brought home to me:T, very thick recycled glass & not a chip in them! There are 5 in total, all different sizes starting from a 2 pint size up to about 6 pints plus a spaghetti jar. Problem is there are no tops, I assume they originally had cork bungs but I have no idea where to get replacements?
Anyway, I don't need them for storage & would like to find a use for them. I am thinking maybe I can do somethiing with them for xmas presents, fill with something?
Any chance of a brian storming session please?

Gardening set - pack of seeds, pair of gloves and a small fork (poundland) in the jar.
Pickling set - long spoon, pickle recipe, onion seeds and spices.
Decorate your own jar - glass paints and brushes.
Art set for a child - paper and crayons.
Pamper set - smellies or some HM bath sachets - lavender and oats for example.
Fill it full of dried mint if you have it in the garden - then the recipient can make their own OS mint tea.
Just cut circles of fabric and secure them over the top with rubber bands - surely your postman drops them...

how about painting it with glass paint , then wrap a piece of wire around the rim and make a handle. then place candle in side and use outside at night on warm summer evenings at BBQ's. it can then hang from something or sit on table.
sorry not very good at explaning what i mean. hope this helps tho.0 -
Thanks Sarah & JCR16:T
So far I have decided that I will fill 2 of them with soapnuts & make decorative instructions for 2 members of family who need an eco-push:rolleyes:. That also ties it in nicely with this challange over on the Green board ; http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=217798
Still considering what I can do with the rest.
Any more bright ideas appreciated lovely people;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

This is a very special Japanese idea, if you have the time.

Basically you make a lot of little origami stars, to fill up a decorated jar. It's a very special gift for a special person, because it implies you were thinking about them when you made every single star, so it's really a gift of the most precious thing we have... time.
I like them.
Plus, as a bonus, you could use strips cut from glossy magazines, so it's a nice way to recycle.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
umm.. a promises jar?
i think they would look really funky filled with different coloured bath pearls, or bath salts (which you should be able to get cheap from your local £ shop)
plant something? cacti are very hard wearing (ie almost impossible to kill)
gold fish bowl?
i'll go put my thinking cap on. in the meantime, you might want to check out the forums on the organized christmas website, as there is a whole board on the forum dedicated to gifts in a jar :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
