update on trying to be mortgage free..... after decreasing our mortgage term to 8 years from 22 in april 2010 we are also trying to overpay on our mortgage.
april, may and june we overpaid by £300 a month.
that is on top of the mortgage which is now a whopping £1901.00 a month!
we are putting all our outgoing money into separate envelopes apart from the direct debits. this has helped us to budget our shopping, petrol and our separate 'treat money'.
this has helped a lot as it was a shock last month to add up how many times we used our debit cards for small and probably unnecessary purchases such as coffee chocs etc and also a shock to add up the amount of £10 ATM visits we ususally make!
just wondered if anyone thinks we should transfer our account to one of those accounts that debts/income etc all go together (offset) would help us to pay things off more quickly?
income details: hubby nett income:£1400 month
my gross income(self employed): £4000 month(average)
no debts other than mortgage
as i am self employed i put aside about £600 a month for my tax in a savings account leaving nett income of about £3400 month. would this be better used against mortgage interest payments but can i still get my hands on it when i need it for tax bills jan and july?
our mortgage is 8 years (april 2010) £163,000.@ 3.29% with repayments of £1901.00 month
plus extra mortgage taken out June 2010(20 years as this was minimum term they would give us due to overpayments) of £22,000.@1.99%, £141.00 month (this was taken out to clear 2x car loans and 1x home loan for conservatory of £490 month previously)
how do i find out if offsett would clear our debt quicker?to be mortg free by jan 2017 (£163,000)reduced to:rotfl: 8 year term.
mortg o/p: apr£300, may£300, june£300 :j
food budget:£200 month
