Probably a very silly question...

.. If you own a freehold property outright so no mortgage, do you need permission of any sort to rent it out? From the local council or anything?! I know when a property is mortgaged you need permission or something from the lender to rent it out but it just was just something I was wondering about..
Told you it was a silly question but I don't know how to find out otherwise!

it depends upon who you let it out to
there is no general requirement to ask anybody but there are rules about multi-occupancy i.e. if you let it out to several unrelated individuals
what are your plans0 -
It's a hypothetical situation really - thinking if I bought the property I'm renting off the landlord further down the line (something we've discussed), it'd be bought outright, and then I'd want to let it out similar to how he has to me, professional person or couple, managed through an agency. So there'd be no multi-occupancy as such..0

No permission is required for the situation you mention.0
