I just phrase it "is there any flexibility on the price?".

i emailed the place supplying our kilts and basically just asked outright, they offered 10% which i declined as its a standard discount and they came back with 15%

my venue quoted us for drinks and i went back saying it was too much and they reduced it.
I ask for discount on most large purchases now as standard and have been sucessful the majority of the time!would love to win an ipad!
