Due to my lack of winning, i've decided to give twitter a try. I don't really understand it, but am giving it my best shot. But I do have two questions, if you have to re tweet something to enter a competition. Do you have to follow the people as well? Also how do you know if a competition is only American? Or can you enter everything?
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I was unsure as to where to post.

Hoping the comping fairy is nice this month and the postman comes.

Hiya,
I'm no expert by any means, but most of the 'Retweet ' comps I've entered say 'follow & RT', so I do. I would have thought you would need to follow them, or you won't see their tweets when they announce the winner.
As for the American ones. I found out the other day that one I had entered was US only by reading the terms on a link they posted. Personally, I have unfollowed all the US ones now and only enter comps from companies in the UK. I'd be gutted if I was to win something and then they say 'sorry, US only.'
Good luck x0 -
on their twitter page if oftens says the company location. if they are US or it doesn't say and they don't have T&C's it's often worth tweeting them to ask what countries the comp is open to
and yes i would follow as well as RT2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960 -
Most competitions say follow and retweet to win, or just retweet.
As for the American competitions, if your unsure you could send them a DM to ask if UK entries are allowed. I won a book from indiependantbooks which is based in America. I'm not really lucky with Twitter so I tend not to enter them myself but I wish you lots of luck and hopefully lots of wins too

hi crazygal. im new to twitter too and have no idea what im doing. there was one comp that i sent a message to privately to ask if i was doing it right and they replied saying yes...that was just copying and pasting their message. but for them to receive your provate message they too must be following you xxx
good luck and i do exactly what tabby the kat says xxx just click hte rt button and then yes-to retweet to your 'followers'
good luck xxx0 -
On twitter, its worth clicking through to their main web site to check where the company is based and any T&Cs . US sites don't always announce that they are american but words like sweepstakes, contests are used by them. Some would send to the UK but you are likely for shipping costs /taxes. personally i tend to avoid US sites.
It is worth checking/clicking through to the site to see if the comp is still running. Some people copy and paste from others tweeting comps and these are sometimes out of date/already drawn.
Most twitter comps only run until certail time ie 5pm. or say Friday. Sometimes it is the first number of respondants that will win.
All this seems a bit garbled but once you get going it will become clear.:o I win a lot of books through twitter, been to the cinema today-free tickets, and won some lovely hair products and DKNY perfume, so quite addictive for a comper.:D
Also if you haven't been onto twitter for a while you can search your own @ name to see if you have been mentioned, as they don't always send a direct message(DM) to you informing of a win.
Good luck:)0
