Absolutely outrageous! And then you get all these pompous, opinionated people coming here, giving lectures about how well paid public sector employees are!!

Please name and shame the employer. No doubt this is a Tory council, trying to keep council tax as low as possible in order to bribe voters.

I work for a coalition council neither of which is Tory. From experience I would say they are all as bad as each other and they like to be seen to go with whatever the latest management theory is.

While I agree pay increases are not a right I have bills to pay so no or below inflation increases means a pay cut. I have no means of "earning" a pay award or bonus other than changing my job.

My point was that I don't feel my pension is something I'm getting for nothing, I'm contributing a lot of money over a long period of time in the hope of a final salary pension which my employer may discontinue whenever they feel like it.

I agree my union has done nothing to help those of us disadvantaged by job evaluation due to equal pay legislation.
  • they should have it all stopped - and made to have defined contribution, with their employer (ie us) contributing no more than 2% per annum.

"Pay rises are not an entitlement" - well that says it all, doesn't it? Basically what you want is a slave labour society. Thanks for letting us know.

Mark, by and large you have made your points in a rational and sensible manner. We even agreed some common points elsewhere on steps to save money. However this assumption is ridiculous. You jumped in on this with two feet taking what the person said at face value and assuming it was a Tory council !!!!

Why should people automatically believe they are entitled to an annual pay rise ? Questioning this sense of entitlement does not make one a subscriber to slave labour. Even mrs T has agreed on this point.
