An each-way bet is a wager offered by bookmakers consisting of two separate bets; a win bet and a place bet. For the win part of the bet to give a return the selection must win or finish first in the event. For the place part of the bet to give a return the selection must either win or finish in one of the predetermined 'places' for the event. The odds paid on the place part of the bet are usually a fraction (commonly
,
,
or
) of the win odds. Examples are domestic football knockout competitions (e.g. FA Cup) where the quoted place terms may be
the odds a place 1,2 and horse racing where the quoted place terms may be
the odds a place 1,2,3.

I won nothing - the kids helped me pick a few horses but I managed to put them all on to win rather than both ways - cos I really have no idea how this works! anyway DS is having an absolute metldown cos he didn't win - he is sitting on the doorstep crying!! talk about a sore looser! It's not like it was his money that paid for the bets!0

Oh bless him! I don't have a clue either really but now I wish I'd bet more, as you always do. Still, it's not a bad return for a quid (bet a total of a fiver). Just got to wait for it to go back into my account now to put it towards debt or something.:pAhem.
