    I gather that. But if those records don't contain the right details how do they link transactions. Without NI numbers your relying on names and possibly DoB. But if you had a common name like "David Smith" (sorry if this is your name btw :)) how on earth can HMRC link two 'indepedent' transactions ?

    Quite possibly because HMRC keep other records tht contain the same details nd also other specifics like NI number emolyer/earnings etc. I would not be surprised if they are interlinked.

    I would imagine you would have to swear you were a FTB and sign some sort of form to this effect, if for whatever reason they find out you were not a FTB then i would imagine the penalties to be severe.

    If you do try, its outright tax fraud and I'm sure you would be taken to court and served penalty fees on top of the stamp duty fees. So i'm not advocating anyone does it.
