Renting after bankrupcy

I went bankrupt after having to flee the marital home. I was lucky enough to be discharged after only 6 months.
After meeting my new fiance we have moved to rural countryside and need to rent a place. There arent that many rental properties ( i have managed to find 3 in a 20 mile area that is vaguely suitable).
I am worried about being rejected for being a discharged bankrupt. My fiancee isnt bankrupt and I wanted to put the lease in his name only. He is more than happy to do this, just so that we get a place to live. We currenlty have 7 weeks to get out of our current place (which we got privatley).
Is this possible?
What has anyone else done?
Worse case scenario I would just say that I am wont be living there.

Hi BQ & welcome.
Much depends on the landlord/letting agency. Mine never even did a credit search even though they took details on the application.
Ask for the tenancy in sole name of your partner....if the LL says that anyone living there has to be on the letting agreement then ask if poor credit history is a problem on the 2nd applicant only & see what they say. It maybe that offering 3-6 months rent up front (if you can afford it) is a further option.
Alternatively you could call up the agency anonymously & ask the question first.
Private LL`s are less stringent usually & don`t have the facility to credit search anyway.
Hope that helps a little & good luck.

Thanks So Sad Angel.
Cant afford 3-6 months rent up front.
And rental proprties are so few and far between where we live that there are hardly any private rentals. I now live rurally and commute to the city to work.
However we were planning on saying that I will continue to work in the city as I have a contract but hope to live with my partner in the next year or so....hence why only he is going on the lease.0 -
I know rural properties are scarce but what are you after?
I rented a farm a year or so back & got to know about it by chatting to the local farmer who put me in touch with another farmer who had a spare tenant farm property empty on his land....its worth asking around locally....post office, pubs etc.
I would`nt see any issues with the lease in just your partners name....depends on income I guess though.
Maybe see if there is a guarantor you could use & if you come across objections you have that as a back up to offer the LL.0 -
just a 2 bed property. My fiancee has a 3 year old that he has every other weekend so it would be Fiancee is self employed and the rent is £495pm so would be dooable (and believable)0

Just wanted to give an update. Found a place to live today. Not via an agency but privatley... quite by accidnet. We were meant to be seeing a 2 bed barn conversion but we never found it. Instead we pulled into another bard conversion and asked for directions.. We ended up talking at cross purposes. He had a 2 bed barn conversion that was available.
NO DEPOSIT
CHEAPER RENT
TAKEN!
What a result.
There is a happy ending eh?0 -

That's great news ! You can't beat living out in the countryside ! Going outside on a clear night and seeing all the stars in all their glory without any of that light pollution, hearing the birds tweetin on a morning, the list goes on and on.
Good luck to you0 -
